What ccTLDs Will Dominate 2012?
2011 was an exciting year for the ccTLD Market and a diversion from 2010 which saw a strong focus on .DE. 2012 saw some great sales from .CO, .ME, and .TV in particular making all of these TLDs hot commodities going-into 2012. Now with .XXX in the mix and new gTLDs in the horizon, which ccTLDs will take the cake in 2012?
Personally I think the big winners this year will be the same three that we saw become rising stars last year, and here’s why:
.CO – Mike Mann has more than proved that there is a nice market for selling .CO names to end-users. We’ve seen .CO sales eclipse .NET and .ORG sales so there is no reason to think this won’t be a strong performer again this year.
.ME – .ME has done a great job of becoming a real brand that starts want to use, especially app makers. Since the app trend is only growing by the day I see .ME continuing to solidify its ground in this space.
.TV – The days of a cable box bringing in your television shows is soon to be a thing of the past, and it is already a thing of the past for some of us. I got rid of my $220/month HD Cable service and switched to Roku where I get more great HD content, all on demand, and my bill has dropped to $18/month. When I go into the channel library I see new channels every month and more and more of them are branding with .TV. Couple this with some of the great sales .TV saw last year and I think there really is nowhere to go but up!
Of course .DE will continue to be strong and is definitely one of the best ccTLDs you can invest in. Now it’s your turn, what ccTLDs do you think will come-out at the head of the pack in 2012?

.CO will come out ahead with .ME a close second. .DE is so far ahead you really can’t put it into the same category.
I think .de will continue to be the big winner for country codes.
The .co, .me and .tv extensions get some big reported sales, but usually for premium words or terms.
Other European country codes will also do well like .co.uk, .es, .fr
Maybe we’ll see .us finally take off, but not much sign of it yet.
@Domains – completely agreed, .DE will always be the front-runner. I too would like to see more from .US as well, I love the TLD!
In 5 years .co will run over .de
what’s de?
The only reason .co will do good is because GoDaddy is investing so much to advertise it. I think it is the worst extension to develop because its so close to .com.
.me only really works for personal domains and a handful of cleverly worded domains like meet.me or something.
again .tv has limitations its kind of a niche market.
On the other hand, domain investors can make a few bucks on any of these extensions, but I’ll save my cash for good .com domains.
